How we vet resources

White Pine is a free navigation tool. The accuracy of the resources we list matters — sometimes urgently. Here is how we maintain it.

Where our data comes from

Every resource in White Pine is sourced from one or more of:

  • The organization's official website
  • Public health unit directories
  • Government service registries (211 Ontario, ConnexOntario, provincial directories)
  • Direct outreach to the organization
  • Verified provider listings from partner agencies

We do not list services that lack a verifiable public source. We do not include private practitioners or paid listings.

What "verified" means

Each resource in White Pine carries a verification status:

Verified A team member has confirmed the resource's name, contact information, services offered, and eligibility criteria within the last verification cycle (see cadence below). Verified resources display a green "Verified" badge with the month of last verification.
Partially verified Some fields have been confirmed but others remain unconfirmed or unknown. Partially verified resources display a partial badge.
Under review The resource has been flagged for re-verification due to a reported issue or a missed verification cycle.
Unverified The resource has been added from a public source but has not yet been independently confirmed by our team. During early access, the majority of our 144 listings carry this status while we work through verification queues.

Trust signals on each card show the current status. We do not hide unverified resources during early access — leaving them out would mean leaving entire districts without coverage — but we mark them honestly so users and referrers can weigh accordingly.

Verification cadence

Resources are re-verified on a schedule based on type:

  • Crisis services are re-verified every 90 days
  • Public mental health services are re-verified every 180 days
  • Specialized programs and community organizations are re-verified every 365 days

A resource that has not been re-verified within its cadence is marked stale and loses its verified badge until the next verification.

Confidence scoring

We track an internal confidence score from 0 to 100 for every resource based on which fields have been independently confirmed (name, phone, address, hours, eligibility, service description, intake method). A resource must score at least 70 and be within its verification cadence to display the verified badge.

What we don't claim

White Pine is not a clinical service. We do not assess users, diagnose conditions, or recommend treatments. The resources we list are public and community-based mental health supports — we navigate users toward them based on self-reported situation and location, but the decision of which service to engage is the user's.

We do our best to keep information current, but service hours, eligibility, and contact details can change without notice. Always verify directly with the organization before relying on time-sensitive information.

Reporting issues

If you find information that is wrong, outdated, or missing, please email hello@whitepinenavigation.ca. We review every report and update the public dataset within 7 days.

Early access

White Pine is in early access while we complete verification across all 10 Northern Ontario districts. As of 6 May 2026, 13 of 144 resources are fully verified and 131 are unverified-but-listed. We are working through the verification queue district by district, prioritizing crisis services and high-traffic listings.
